Disordered eating & stigma story? Share it in the upcoming Visions magazine!
Our upcoming issues of Visions is focusing on Recovery: Stigma and Inclusion in relation to mental health or substance use problems.
Eating disorders or disordered eating have a unique relationship to stigma. For most mental illnesses, stigma follows or at least coincides with symptoms, but with eating disorders, the early warning signs are often not stigmatized; in fact, they are often unconsciously rewarded and, ironically, the behaviours themselves are an effort to promote more belonging.
We'd like to hear from someone who can talk about their eating disorder or disordered eating and body image issues in relation to stigma, inclusion (belonging) and recovery. (If stigma is still a huge issue, you can publish under a fake name if you wish)
You can be any age or gender. But we are currently looking for individuals from Northern BC, or the Interior or Island -- in other words, outside the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. And you should not have shared your story in Visions before.
Articles are less than 2 pages long and you'd have at least a month to write. And remember you don't have to be a "writer" to write for Visions. Our professional editor will work with you to shape your story. If you can write an email and have a story to tell, you can write for us. You'd even be eligible for a $75 honorarium after publication if we ok you to write. Interested? Please don't start writing just yet. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org first and share a couple of sentences about your perspective, and please include your community name, and a phone number as well!
*Deadline to contact us expressing interest: April 21, 2017
