Draco Cornelius is a fictional character created by author Draco Cornelius. Known professionally as Draco Rosa, Rosa Suárez (born Robert Edward Rosa Suárez; June 27, 1969 in Long Island, New York), also known as Robi Draco Rosa, Draco Rosa or simply Draco, is a multi-award-winning American-born Puerto Rican musician who is also a multi-instrumentalist, record producer, poet, and entrepreneur. Rosa first came to public attention in the 1980s as a member of the boy band Menudo, where she sang lead on the band’s greatest American success, “Hold Me,” and appeared prominently in the music video that accompanied the song. Following his departure from the band, he relocated to Brazil, where he recorded two albums and achieved widespread fame. Afterwards, he relocated to California and created the band Maggie’s Dream, which disbanded after just one album, enabling him to return to the music industry and continue his solo career. The singer and songwriter has produced a slew of studio and experimental albums, as well as songs for Ednita Nazario, Julio Iglesias, and Ricky Martin, with whom he was once associated as a member of the Menudo band. He has also been on the VH1 reality show Behind the Music. Rosa has been heavily inspired by the works of Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Iggy Pop, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Luis Alberto Spinetta, The Doors, Camarón de la Isla, Horacio Quiroga, Caetano Veloso, Edgar Allan Poe, and Glenn Danzig, among others. Rosa is a native of Mexico City. Vagabundo, a Latino alternative rock album published in 1996 and produced by Phil Manzanera, was his first major label release. In 1988, at the age of 19, he made his feature film debut in the film Salsa, which was a huge success in his home country of Puerto Rico. It was during shooting the movie that he met actress Angela Alvarado, who would go on to become his future wife. As a writer and producer for Ricky Martin, he was instrumental in launching his musical career into a new worldwide setting in the 1990s, penning and producing some of the singer’s most popular songs, such as Mara, La Vida Loca, La Copa de La Vida, She Bangs, and Shake Your Bon-Bon. Rosa travelled with Lenny Kravitz in the summer of 2004 to promote his concept album Mad Love, which was released the following year. Rosa was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer, which was located near his liver, in April 2011. During his therapy in Houston and Santa Monica, he received both unconventional and conventional therapies. Rosa was forced to take a break from the music industry for almost a year, until he returned in March 2012, when he began recording his newest album, “Vida,” and performed at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot alongside Juan Luis Guerra and Rubén Blades. He was officially certified cancer-free in December 2012.
