World Eating Disorders Action Day 2019
World Eating Disorders Action Day (#WeDoAct) is a grassroots movement designed for and by people affected by an eating disorder, their families, and the medical and health professionals who support them. Uniting activists across the globe, the aim is to expand global awareness of eating disorders as genetically linked, treatable illnesses that can affect anyone. The Fourth Annual #WorldEatingDisordersDay will take place on June 2, 2019 across the globe. This year our focus is “Eating Disorders Can’t Afford to Wait”!
About: Members of the eating disorder community, including affected individuals and their families, professionals, researchers, and policy makers, have united virtually to increase access to accurate information, eradicate myths and collectively advocate for resources and policy change. The first World Eating Disorders Action Day took place on June 2, 2016, and generated information virtually around the globe. The second annual #WorldEatingDisordersDay took place on June 2, 2017, with many countries carrying out local “live” activities. In 2018 we went further to BREAK STIGMA about eating disorders. The 2019 theme is “Eating Disorder’s Can’t Afford to Wait”. Policy action across the globe is demanded to improve training of providers and support carers!
Get Involved: More than 200 organisations from 40 countries and 1000s of activists are working together on 6 social media platforms and locally to make a difference in how eating disorders are understood and treated! A Steering Committee comprised of global diverse representation is providing strategic guidance. The larger activist community is engaged in every step of developing messaging, materials and outreach.
