Ralph Anwan Glover (a.k.a. Big G) is an American actor and musician who is most known for his role as Big G in the film Big. Aside from being one of the original members of the Backyard Band, a go-go band, he is also known for his role as gang member Slim Charles in the HBO television series The Wire. Aside from that, he has featured in a number of music videos, including Boyz n da Hood’s “Dem Boyz” and Wale’s “Chillin,” among others, and hosts a radio show on WKYS-FM in the Washington, D.C.
region. Anwan also appeared in three episodes of the first season of the HBO series Treme, in which he played Keevon White, a convicted murderer who is on the run. Treme was developed by David Simon and Eric Overmyer, who previously worked together on The Wire. He also gives talks to young people in the Washington, DC, region, and has been admitted into the New York Film Academy (NYFA).
On August 26, 2007, Tayon Glover’s brother was shot and murdered in the Columbia Heights area of Los Angeles, California. According to Anwan and Mayor Adrian Fenty, “we’re weary of seeing yellow [police] tape” and “we’re tired of witnessing revenge shootings.” They also called for a stop to retaliatory killings. A recent interview with Glover revealed that he had been shot a total of thirteen times. Glover is also the father of six children, named Kavon, Genesis, Chynna, Talaya, and Jajuan, as well as a stepchild, Jadai. Since 2009, Glover has been a cast member in the film Shoedog, which was created by novelist and The Wire writer George Pelecanos.
