Julie Greenwald was known for being the wife of Lewis Lewis Largent. Largent, a senior A&R at Island Def Jam Recordings and the renowned host of MTV’s 120 Minutes, has passed away at the age of 58.
Largent’s family confirmed this week to Variety that he passed away on February 20 following a protracted illness.
After joining the company as Vice President of Music Programming, he hosted MTV’s alternative music program 120 Minutes in the early to mid-1990s, interviewing artists such as David Bowie, Trent Reznor, Radiohead, Björk, and Smashing Pumpkins.
The southern Californian-born tastemaker got his start in the music business with an internship at KROQ, a renowned alternative rock radio station in Los Angeles. He started working full-time for the station in 1985, and in 1989 he was given the opportunity to become the music director.

In her Jewish family, Julie Greenwald was the third of four girls born in 1970. She was raised in the Catskills before enrolling at Tulane University. Greenwald had a taste for bands like 10,000 Maniacs and The Smiths even as a college student. She spent a year teaching as a member of Teach for America in the Calliope projects of New Orleans after receiving her B.A. from Tulane.
After the year was up, Greenwald relocated to New York City to live with her lover, and in 1992 she started working at Def Jam Recordings as Lyor Cohen’s personal assistant.
Greenwald was awarded many promotions within Def Jam as well as a stake in the company after demonstrating skill in her work for Cohen. Greenwald subsequently rose to the position of head of marketing and promotions at the label focused on hip-hop and rap.
Greenwald formed and expanded the marketing staff there, and her marketing work was well-regarded. She was given credit for fostering the success of Def Jam artists like Public Enemy, LL Cool J, and DMX as well as the talent on the label. Millions of recordings were sold thanks to Greenwald’s efforts, and the artist received multiple gold and platinum records as a result.
