According to a number of state lawmakers and an online obituary, Mac Huddleston, a seasoned lawmaker who served as Pontotoc County’s representative in the state House, passed away on Sunday. He was 79.
Huddleston’s wife, Dr. Flavia Huddleston, claims that the plasma cell malignancy multiple myeloma caused his death.
Huddleston headed the House Universities and Colleges Committee and the House Ethics Committee for the past four years. He also previously held the position of vice chairman on the influential House Appropriations Committee.
Huddleston decided not to seek for reelection this year after serving as the legislator for the rural northeast Mississippi county for the previous 16 years. As a result, the rural northeast Mississippi county now has a new legislator to represent it in the Legislature.
